Joan Schulhafer
Bio
Joan Schulhafer established Joan Schulhafer Publishing & Media Consulting in 2007. It is the latest evolution in a career spent working independently and as a key executive at several publishers, including Avon, Bantam, Simon and Schuster’s Pocket Books and Silhouette Books, and Kensington Publishing.
In the late 1980s she led her own promotion, advertising and publicity company. Clients included most of the major U.S. houses, Harlequin/Silhouette, authors Nora Roberts, Jayne Ann Krentz and Heather Graham, and projects such as the Silhouette Books How to Write a Romance seminars and the national launch of the Amanda Quick nom de plume.
Through the years, Joan has worked with fiction and nonfiction titles in all formats—hardcover, trade paperback, mass market and now e-books. Fiction in all formats is at the core of her business.
Working in house, Joan was instrumental in the launch of a number of new genre and literary imprints including the prestigious science fiction/fantasy line Eos. Her experience targeting the romance, mystery/suspense, science fiction/fantasy, African American and GLBT audiences includes countless campaigns and contributed greatly to network of contacts that benefit her clients today.
Joan has worked on a national and local level representing authors and publishers to independent booksellers, major book chains, mass merchandisers, trade and consumer media and via publishing, bookseller, library, writer and reader events. She is a member of the Publishers Publicity Association and an associate/affiliate member of Mystery Writers of America, Romance Writers of America and the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance.
